Annual scoliosis screening (screening for abnormal curvature of the spine) will be done annually in the 7th grade. Scoliosis screening: Annual Scoliosis screening is done on all 7th graders during physical education class. Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. It is important to detect abnormal curvature early in adolescence so further abnormal growth can be prevented during rapid growth of a teenager. The majority of positive screens do not have scoliosis.
If your child does have a positive screen, you will need to follow up with the pediatrician.
